Scientific Racism

Racism continues to be a major topic within social psychology, however Psychology has a rich history of being involved within scientific racism throughout the beginning of the 20th Century. Psychology contributed to several, now deemed racist, theories and practises. Many of these practises led to the developed of the eugenics movement (especially in the United States). See the work of Mamie Clarke and Kenneth in the 1940s and their contributions to Psychology during the Civil Rights movement for their now classic studies on children’s racial preferences.
