Influences on and from Psychology

Psychology has not formed in a vacuum but instead has been highly influenced by societal changes before, during, and after the 20th century. As a science it emerged in response to societal need and has altered accordingly, with new technologies, new methods, new perspectives etc. Psychology has weaved its way through history enmeshed in societal and historical contexts. Psychology has also highly influenced society, research theories and arguments formed within the field have impacted later societal understandings. For example, very few people could not say something about the ideas of Sigmund Freud! Some areas of Psychology, such as Action Research also actively try to reform and revolutionise some aspects of society.
