Strategy

Strategy is defined as "a particular long-term plan for success, especially in business or politics". It derives from the Greek strategia, "office of general, command, generalship".

The word originally had military connotations, dealing with the planning and the conduct of campaigns, the movement and disposition of forces, and the deception of the enemy.

In the world of business, strategy is management's game plan for strengthening the performance of the enterprise. It states how business should be conducted to achieve the desired goals.

Sun Tzu and Machiavelli were early experts on strategy, and modern-day management thinkers who specialise in the discipline include Hamel, Lorenz, Mintzberg and Peters.
